Powerboat Courses

Minimum age 16 (due to insurance requirements)
Courses run from 0930 to 1700 with a maximum of 3 students to 1 instructor for Levels 1 & 2, or 6:1 for Safety Boat. Please call us to register you interest in a course which we will provide when there is sufficient interest.
Alternatively, private tuition for 1 or 2 people can be arranged at a time to suit you. Prices on application.
RYA Powerboat Level 1 - 1 day £145
This course is an introduction to powerboating techniques. Including launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, basic boat handling and the use of safety equipment. It can either be taken as a stand-alone course or integrated into the two-day Level 2 course. After this course it is recommended that you only drive powerboats under close supervision.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 - 2 days £195
This two-day course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat competently. It includes close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. After the course you will be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of your own limitations and those of the craft.

Safety Boat Course - 2 days £225
This course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. For this course, you must have a basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers and be an experienced powerboater. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course.

Powerboat Refresher - 2 hours £80
If you haven’t driven for a while, here’s a chance to brush up on your skills. Contact us to arrange a date.
The boats we use for all courses are 5-metre, 50hp RIBs and various 15-30hp Rigiflex boats.
On successful completion of your course at Northampton Watersports Centre you will receive an RYA Logbook including a course certificate, providing you have reached the required proficiency level.
